Sant Namdev

nāmadeva āratī (janmatāṃ pāṃḍuraṃge)

(Namadeva Arati Janmatam Pamduramge in English (IAST))

Also known as shree namdev aarti marathi · janmatam pamduramge jivhevari lihilem

A short Marathi arati to Namdev whose first line makes the claim the Varkari tradition makes about him: at his birth Pandurang wrote on his tongue, and a hundred crore abhangs were composed as the measure of that poetry. What follows is about what a saint is for rather than what he did. God took a descent in order to receive the pleasure of devotion, and the world was carried across by his taking on the form of a place of pilgrimage. One verse names the proof the singers care about — the sand of the riverbank was actually turned to touchstone, difference vanished and the sense of two was dissolved — and the last places his tomb at the great door of the temple, at Vitthal's feet, which is where he asked to be laid so that the feet of pilgrims would fall on him.
