Lord Surya

śrī sūrya deva kī āratī (oṃ jaya sūrya bhagavāna)

(Shree Surya Dev Ki Aarti (Om Jai Surya Bhagwan) in English (IAST))

Also known as om jai surya bhagwan · om jai surya bhagwan aarti · jai ho dinkar bhagwan

The Sun's āratī in the metre of Om Jai Jagadīśa Hare, opening 'Om jai Sūrya bhagavān, jai ho Dinakara bhagavān' and returning to that line after every pair of stanzas. It describes the god as he is seen rather than arguing anything about him: Aruṇa holds the reins, he carries the white lotus and has four arms, seven horses draw him and he spreads ten million rays. The verses then follow a single day through — at dawn he comes to the eastern mountain and all who look up receive his sight, at dusk he goes down behind the western one and the cattle come home through the dust of their own hooves, and in that hour his greatness is sung in every courtyard. The last stanzas make the whole world his household: the directions worship him, the ten guardians worship him, and the seasons are named as his servants.
