Goddess Durga

श्रीदुर्गाध्यानम्

(Sri Durga Dhyanam)

Also known as sri durga dhyanam 2 · shri durga dhyanam · shree durga dhyanam

Five separate meditation verses gathered under one title, each holding a different form of the Goddess. In the first she sits on the lion, moon-crested and emerald-hued, four arms bearing conch, discus, bow and arrows, her anklets and girdle sounding as she moves. The second abandons description for address, calling her in a single breath the slayer of Madhu and Kaitabha, the taker of Mahisha's life, the one who felled Dhumralochana in play, the crusher of Chanda and Munda, the end of Raktabija, the remover of Nishumbha and the destroyer of Shumbha. The third is gold-coloured and gracious on a golden lotus in yellow cloth; the fourth is Katyayani, terrible as lightning and attended by maidens skilled in arms; the fifth stands on the buffalo's head, coloured like fresh durva grass.
