Lord Garuda (Vishnu)

śrī garuḍa dvādaśanāma stotram

(Sri Garuda Dwadasa Nama Stotram in English (IAST))

Also known as shri garuda dwadasa nama stotram · shree garuda dwadasa nama stotram · garuda dwadasa nama stotram

Twelve names of Garuda in two verses, with two more for their fruit, and the whole thing is short enough to be said while getting out of bed — which is what the text tells you to do with it. The names are the plain ones: Suparna the fair-winged, Vinata's son, enemy of snakes and terror of snakes, conqueror of the ender, foe of poison, the unconquered, the one whose form is everything, Garutmat, best of birds, Tarkshya, and Kashyapa's delight. What it promises is correspondingly practical. Poison will not take hold of the reciter, and those who mean harm will not harm him; there is victory in battle and in dealings; a man in confinement gets free of it, and a man setting out on a journey arrives. It belongs with the short protective pieces rather than with the long hymns.
