ଶ୍ରୀ ମହାଵିଷ୍ଣୁ ସ୍ତୋତ୍ରମ୍

A short hymn by the Jagadguru Bharati Tirtha of Sringeri, better known by its opening words than by its title. Every verse ends on one doubled line — take away my burning, Lord; take away my sin, Lord — and everything before that is a string of vocatives in a light, singable metre: rider of Garuda, lotus-eyed, whose lotus feet are praised by Brahma and the slayer of Namuchi and the gods, bearer of conch and discus, destroyer of wicked demons, refuge of every world. The return of the plea after each verse gives it the shape of a bhajan rather than of a formal stotra, which is how it is usually sung.
