श्री रुद्र स्तवनम्

(Sri Rudra Stavanam)

Adi Shankaracharya

Also known as rudra stavanam prapanchasara · shankaracharya rudra stavanam · namo virincha vishnvisha

Eleven verses from the twenty-fifth chapter of the Prapanchasara, given by its colophon to Shankara, and their manner is compressed to the point of difficulty — each verse is one long compound resolving into a salutation. Salutation to the supreme self, who is by division Virinchi and Vishnu and Isha, whose activity is made manifest as creation, maintenance, withdrawal and turning back. Salutation to him who has arisen fourfold as the self of the elements of the earth, who carries off the affliction of the earth's heavy burden, to the lord of beings, holder of the trident. It belongs to the tantric-philosophical stratum of the Shankara corpus rather than the popular one, and it is meant to be worked at rather than sung.
