ஶ்ரீ ஶ்ரீஶைல மல்லிகார்ஜுந ஸுப்ரபாதம்

At dawn I call to mind the Lord of Hosts, friend of the friendless, both his cheeks bright with a wash of vermilion; the fierce rod that breaks down towering obstacles, worshipped by the throng of gods with Indra at their head.

To the two who are adorned at the crest with the moon’s digit; whose two fruits are their own austerity, and who make their fruits manifest among the devotees; to the two auspicious ones, auspicious to the three worlds for the faithful, arising again within the heart, whose experience shines forth as bliss — this my salutation.

Salutation to you, salutation, O Mahādeva, O Śambhu! Salutation to you, salutation, O ocean filled with compassion! Salutation to you, salutation, O kinsman of the soul that takes refuge! Salutation to you, salutation, salutation, O Maheśa.

Ever seen upon the crest of Śrīgiri, at work in guarding the three worlds; raining down a stream of nectar by the very path of her unfailing gracious glance; her head marked with the half-moon, granting boundless riches to those who bow; well praised, smiling of face — you, Bhramarāmbikā, the companion of Śambhu, we praise.

O Mother, be gracious; be full of compassion, O you of blessed nature! O you who in a mere fragment of your play swept away the host of the daityas! O dweller in the palace of the Śrī-cakra! O you whose fame the Vedas sing! O beloved of the Lord of Śrīśailam — may your dawn be auspicious.

O Śambhu, praised by the lord of the gods! O Śaṅkara, trident in hand! O you crowned with the moon! O Śiva, O Śarva, bearer of the Pināka! O bearer of Gaṅgā, lord of the sacrifice, friend of him whose banner is Garuḍa! O mighty Mallikārjuna — may your dawn be auspicious.

O Lord of all, served by all the world, whose form is the universe! O bearer of the universe, render of Tripura, womb of the world! O you with an eye in your brow, of blessed qualities, whose ornament is the serpent! O mighty Mallikārjuna — may your dawn be auspicious.

O you whose form is welfare, mine of compassion, dark of throat! O you worshipped with the blossom of the wish-granting tree, giver of what is desired! O god of gods, swift to crush the daityas of evil rule! O mighty Mallikārjuna — may your dawn be auspicious.

O ravisher of Gaurī’s heart, whose feet the lords of the hosts serve! O you whose fame gandharvas, yakṣas, gods and kinnaras sing! O you whose face is graced by serpent-earrings hanging by the cheek! O mighty Mallikārjuna — may your dawn be auspicious.

O you adorned with the lord of serpents, free of craving, without change! O you free of illusion, unmoving, unhindered, render of the serpent! O beloved of Nārāyaṇī, giver of what those who bow desire, O stainless of soul! O mighty Lord of Śrīparvata — may your dawn be auspicious.

By you alone was this whole world created, O Lord; and the ordering of its protection, O you within the reach of Brahmā, is yours. Even the power of destruction, O Śaṅkara, is your handmaid. O mighty crest of Śrīśailam — may your dawn be auspicious.

You alone are one, yet you shine in the world in manifold ways, O Bhava! O you whose mind is free of doubt, whose emblem is the bull, O Mallinātha! O beloved of Śrī Bhrāmarī, refuge of ease, Lord of the world! O mighty crest of Śrīśailam — may your dawn be auspicious.

Their bodies made clean by bathing in the Ganges water of the nether world, their brows adorned with the threefold mark of ash — gods and sages and devoted folk sing of you. O mighty Mallikārjuna — may your dawn be auspicious.

Climbing the stairway to the Bhogavatī fed by Sarasvatī’s waters, and to the Kṛṣṇaveṇī kissed by the mountain of Brahmā, Īśa and Viṣṇu, the devotees worship. O mighty Mallikārjuna — may your dawn be auspicious.

Those men upon the earth who at dawn recite this Suprabhāta hymn of Śrī Mallikārjuna Maheśvara enjoy every happiness, and having attained the supreme and unattainable state of Śambhu, they come to joy.
