ഗോദാ ദേവീ അഷ്ടോത്തര ശത സ്തോത്രമ്

Meditation (Dhyānam): May Gōdā — daughter of Viṣṇuchitta — shine radiant in our hearts: she whose dark complexion rivals the sapphire gem among Indras (śatamakha-maṇi, Indra's jewel); who holds a beautiful cluster of blue water-lilies (kalhāra) in her hands; whose body gently bows under the fullness of her bosom; who is an ocean of overflowing maternal love (sāndra-vātsalya); and who draws her Lord close with the flower-garlands woven into her tresses.

[Beginning of the Stotram — verse 1:] Śrīraṅganāyakī — the Queen of Śrīraṅgam; Gōdā — the gift of the earth; Viṣṇuchittātmajā — daughter of Viṣṇuchitta (Periyāḷvār); Satī — the true and chaste; Gōpīvēṣadharā — wearer of the Gopī's garb; Devī — the divine Goddess; Bhūsutā — daughter of Mother Earth; Bhōgaśālinī — endowed with divine splendour and enjoyment.

[Verse 2:] Tulasīkānanōdbhūtā — she who arose from a tulasī grove; Śrīdhanvipuravāsinī — resident of Śrīvilliputtur; Bhaṭṭanāthapriyakarī — she who brings joy to Bhaṭṭanātha (Periyāḷvār); Śrīkṛṣṇahitabhōginī — she who enjoys whatever pleases Śrī Kṛṣṇa.

[Verse 3:] Āmuktamālyadā — she who gave the garland she herself had worn; Bālā — the eternal maiden; Raṅganāthapriyā — beloved of Raṅganātha; Parā — the Supreme; Viśvambharā — sustainer of the universe; Kalālāpā — speaker of graceful arts; Yatirājasahōdarī — sister of Yatirāja (Rāmānuja).

[Verse 4:] Kṛṣṇānuraktā — deeply devoted to Kṛṣṇa; Subhagā — the auspicious and fortunate; Sulabhaśrī — she in whom Śrī is easily attained; Sulakṣaṇā — bearer of all auspicious marks; Lakṣmīpriyasakhī — dear friend of Lakṣmī; Śyāmā — the dark beauty; Dayāñchitadṛgañchalā — whose glance-corners overflow with compassion.

[Verse 5:] Phalgunyāvirbhavā — she who appeared under the Phalgunī star; Ramyā — the lovely, delightful one; Dhanurmāsakṛtavratā — she who observed the sacred vow throughout Dhanurmāsa; Champakāśōkapunnāgamālatīvilasatkachā — she whose tresses are adorned with champaka, aśōka, punnāga, and mālatī blossoms.

[Verse 6:] Ākāratrayasampannā — endowed with the three glorious forms; Nārāyaṇapadāśritā — she who has taken refuge at Nārāyaṇa's feet; Śrīmadaṣṭākṣarīmantrarājasthitamanōrathā — she whose heart's longing rests in the glorious eight-syllabled royal mantra (Oṃ Namō Nārāyaṇāya).

[Verse 7:] Mōkṣapradānanipuṇā — expert in bestowing liberation; Manuratnādhidēvatā — the presiding deity of the jewel-mantra; Brahmaṇyā — devoted to the Vedic path and Brahman; Lōkajananī — mother of all worlds; Līlāmānuṣarūpiṇī — she who assumed human form as a divine sport.

[Verse 8:] Brahmajñānapradā — bestower of Brahman-knowledge; Māyā — the divine creative power; Sachchidānandavigrahā — she whose form is pure Being–Consciousness–Bliss; Mahāpativratā — the supreme devoted wife; Viṣṇuguṇakīrtanalōlupā — joyfully absorbed in singing the glories of Viṣṇu.

[Verse 9:] Prapannārtiharā — remover of suffering for those who surrender; Nityā — the eternal one; Vēdasaudhavihāriṇī — she who dwells in the mansion of the Vedas; Śrīraṅganāthamāṇikyamañjarī — the jewel-cluster of Śrīraṅganātha; Mañjubhāṣiṇī — the sweet-spoken one.

[Verse 10:] Padmapriyā — she who loves the lotus; Padmahastā — she who holds the lotus in her hand; Vēdāntadvayabōdhinī — she who illumines the dual Vedānta (Viśiṣṭādvaita); Suprasannā — the supremely gracious one; Bhagavatī — the divine Goddess; Śrījanārdanadīpikā — the radiant lamp of Śrī Janārdana.

[Verse 11:] Sugandhāvayavā — she whose limbs are naturally fragrant; Chāruraṅgamaṅgaladīpikā — the auspicious lamp of beautiful Raṅgam; Dhvajavajrāṅkuśābjāṅkamṛdupādalatāñchitā — she whose tender foot-creepers are marked with the four auspicious signs: the flag, thunderbolt, goad, and lotus.

[Verse 12:] Tārakākāranakharā — whose toenails are shaped like shining stars; Pravālamṛdulāṅguḻī — whose toes are as tender and rosy as coral; Kūrmōpamēyapādōrdhvabhāgā — whose upper foot arches like a tortoise's back; Śōbhanapārṣṇikā — whose heels are beautiful.

[Verse 13:] Vēdārthabhāvatattvajñā — she who knows the inner essence and truth of the Vedas; Lōkārādhyāṅghripaṅkajā — whose lotus feet are worshipped by all worlds; Ānandabudbudākārasugulphā — whose graceful ankles are like bubbles of bliss; Paramāṇukā — of most delicate and subtle form.

[Verse 14:] Tējaḥśriyōjjvaladhṛtapādāṅguḻisubhūṣitā — beautifully adorned with lustrous toe-rings ablaze with radiant splendour; Mīnakētanatūṇīrachārujaṅghāvirājitā — whose graceful calves shine like the quiver of Kāmadēva, the fish-bannered god of love.

[Verse 15:] Kakudvajjānuyugmāḍhyā — whose paired knees are beautifully rounded like a bull's hump; Svarṇarambhābhasakthikā — whose thighs are like golden plantain trunks; Viśālajaghanā — of wide, beautiful hips; Pīnasuśrōṇī — of full, gracefully formed buttocks; Maṇimēkhalā — wearer of a jewelled girdle.

[Verse 16:] Ānandasāgarāvartagambhīrāmbhōjanābhikā — whose deep navel is like a lotus-whirlpool in the ocean of bliss; Bhāsvadvalitrikā — who bears three luminous folds on her abdomen; Chārujagatpūrṇamahōdaryai — whose beautiful great belly contains the entire universe.

[Verse 17:] Navavallīrōmarājī — whose fine line of abdominal hair is like a tender new creeper; Sudhākumbhāyitastanī — whose breasts are like pots brimming with nectar; Kalpamālānibhabhujā — whose arms resemble the divine wish-fulfilling garland; Chandrakhaṇḍanakhāñchitā — whose nails are as lovely as crescent moons.

[Verse 18:] Supravāśāṅguḻīnyastamahāratnāṅgulīyakā — who wears great jewelled rings upon her well-shaped, beautiful fingers; Navāruṇapravālābhapāṇidēśasamañchitā — whose palm glows with the rosy colour of freshly-blossomed red coral illuminated by the new dawn.

[Verse 19:] Kambukaṇṭhī — of conch-shaped neck; Suchubukā — of beautiful chin; Bimbōṣṭhī — of lips red as the bimba fruit; Kundadantayuk — whose teeth are even and white as jasmine buds; Kāruṇyarasaniṣyandanētradvayasuśōbhitā — whose pair of eyes shines with compassion flowing like nectar.

[Verse 20:] Muktāśuchismitā — whose smile is pure and bright as pearls; Chāruchāmpēyanibhanāsikā — whose beautiful nose resembles the champaka blossom; Darpaṇākāravipulakapōladvitayāñchitā — adorned with two broad cheeks, smooth and bright as mirrors.

[Verse 21:] Anantārkaprakāśōdyanmaṇitāṭaṅkaśōbhitā — adorned with earrings blazing with the infinite radiance of innumerable suns; Kōṭisūryāgnisaṅkāśanānābhūṣaṇabhūṣitā — wearing many ornaments ablaze like ten million suns and fires.

[Verse 22:] Sugandhavadanā — of fragrant face; Subhrū — of beautiful brows; Ardhachandralalāṭikā — whose forehead bears a crescent-moon mark; Pūrṇachandrānanā — whose face is as radiant as the full moon; Nīlakuṭilālakaśōbhitā — adorned with wavy, dark, curling tresses.

[Verse 23:] Saundaryasīmā — the very pinnacle and summit of beauty; Vilasatkastūrītilakōjjvalā — radiant with a gleaming, sparkling musk-mark on her brow; Dhagaddhagāyamānōdyanmaṇisīmantabhūṣaṇā — whose hair-parting ornament blazes with rising, flaming jewels.

[Verse 24:] Jājvalyamānasadratnadivyachūḍāvataṃsakā — who wears a divine crown-ornament of ever-blazing true gems; Sūryārdhachandravilasat bhūṣaṇāñchitavēṇikā — whose braided hair is adorned with ornaments luminous as the sun and crescent moon together.

[Verse 25:] Atyarkānalatējōdhimaṇikañchukadhāriṇī — who wears a bodice adorned with gems of extraordinary solar and fiery brilliance; Sadratnāñchitavidyōtavidyutkuñjābhaśāṭikā — wearing a silk garment adorned with true gems, sparkling like a bower filled with lightning.

[Verse 26:] Nānāmaṇigaṇākīrṇahēmāṅgadasubhūṣitā — beautifully adorned with golden armlets studded with clusters of many and varied gems; Kuṅkumāgarukastūrīdivyachandanacharchitā — anointed with divine sandalwood paste blended with saffron, agaru, and musk.

[Verse 27:] Svōchitaujjvalyavividhavichitramaṇihāriṇī — wearing various and wonderful gem-necklaces whose lustre befits her own divine radiance; Asaṅkhyēyasukhasparśasarvātiśayabhūṣaṇā — adorned with countless ornaments of incomparably pleasant touch that surpass all other beauty.

[Verse 28 — final stotram verse:] Mallikāpārijātādidivyapuṣpasragañchitā — adorned with divine garlands of mallikā, pārijāta, and other heavenly flowers; Śrīraṅganilayā — she who abides in Śrīraṅgam; Pūjyā — the supremely worshipful one; Divyadēśasuśōbhitā — she who graces and beautifies all the holy divine shrines.
