Lord Vishnu

śāntākāraṃ bhujagaśayanaṃ

(Shanthakaram Bhujagashayanam in English (IAST))

Also known as santakaram bhujagasayanam padmanabham suresam

Among the most beautiful shlokas that describe Lord Vishnu's form and qualities, this one holds special significance. It begins by describing Lord Vishnu's primary aspect - "Sāntākāraṃ" - the very embodiment of peace. This peace manifests in His divine posture, "bhujagaśayanaṃ," reclining on the serpent Adishesha. From His "padmanābhaṃ" (lotus navel) springs all creation, showing He is "Sureśaṃ" (Lord of all devas) and "Viśvādhāraṃ" (sustainer of the universe). The shloka then paints His divine form: "Gaganasadṛśaṃ" (vast as the sky), "Meghavarṇaṃ" (cloud-hued), and "Shubāṅgam" (of auspicious limbs).
