Lord Chitragupta (Yama)

śrī citragupta jī kī āratī

(Shree Chitragupta Ji Ki Aarti in English (IAST))

Also known as chitragupta ji ki aarti · ji ki aarti · om jaya citragupta hare svami jaya

A Hindi arati to Chitragupta sung to the jaya jagadisha tune, and what distinguishes it is the inventory of what he holds. In his hands are a pen, an inkpot, a conch and the register — the last being the point of him, since the record of deeds is his office — with the Vaijayanti garland at the neck. He is four-armed and dark-bodied in yellow cloth, and the arati names both his consorts, Iravati and Dakshina, standing at his sides. One verse describes his taking up the seat and Brahma's pleasure at it, with the thirty-three crores of gods running to his feet, which is how the tradition explains his position between the gods and the accounting of human lives. Its requests are for the removal of hardship and the fulfilment of what devotees wish, in the ordinary way of the form.
