Lord Dattatreya

ଶ୍ରୀଦତ୍ତାର୍ତିକ୍ଯମ୍ (ଜଯ ଭଗଵନ୍ ଯୋଗୀଶ୍ଵର ଦତ୍ତ)

(Shri Datta Artikyam (Sanskrit Aarti) in Odia)

Mayureshwara

Also known as sri datta artikyam (sanskrit aarti) · shree datta artikyam (sanskrit aarti) · datta artikyam (sanskrit aarti)

An āratī to Dattātreya in Sanskrit, opening 'Jaya bhagavan jaya bhagavan yogīśvara Datta' and turning at once on a plain admission — every good thing has come from you and none of it from me. Its argument is that the guru who took many teachers himself is showing the way by that very act. Two of the three stanzas are historical rather than descriptive: the thousand-armed Arjuna was made what he became, and Alarka was brought to happiness by bowing once, so people leave the other wells and go to this ocean, having put down the burden to grasp the golden post. The last stanza names the illusion that makes a man carry death on his own head and asks the lord of that illusion, who makes his peacock of a devotee dance, to hold it in his hand instead. It is signed by Mayūreśvara, son of Rāmanandana, who also wrote the Sanskrit āratī to the Sun.
