śrī pitṛ deva āratī

(Shri Pitru Dev Aarti in English (IAST))

Also known as sri pitru dev aarti · shree pitru dev aarti · pitru dev aarti

A Hindi arati to the ancestors in a plainly Rajasthani idiom, and its whole content is dependence rather than praise. You yourself are the protector, and the giver, and the one who takes the boat across; I am foolish and know nothing at all. You are standing every moment of every hour, keeping watch over me. In one's own country and in another country, everywhere, you give the help; and when a difficulty comes and your name is taken, it feels very much like ease. The one request is made for a household rather than a person — protect all of us, myself together with my family — and the singer says he repeats it over and over. There is no iconography in it and no story, which is proper to the subject, since what is being addressed is one's own dead.
