ଶ୍ରୀ ଭାସ୍କରାଷ୍ଟକମ୍

Eight verses that each end by taking refuge — āśrayāmi, I resort to Śrī Bhāskara — and each close that refuge with a different title: kinsman of the world, refuge of those who bow, lord of the assembly of planets, kinsman of the lotus, sovereign of the world, protector of the worlds. What is asked for is concrete: sight that is entirely unclouded, the eight powers beginning with aṇimā, a crossing of the deep dark sea of saṃsāra, an end to the three torments. The seventh names him cause of creation, maintenance and dissolution together, giver of sight, and remover of every hardship. The eighth closes the sequence with what reads as the poet's own signature, calling him guardian of the poet Lakṣmīnṛsiṃha, and the added verse promises long life, wealth and strength wherever the eight are heard, recited or held in mind.
