ଶ୍ରୀ କେତୁ ସ୍ତୋତ୍ରମ୍ (ପୁରାଣୋକ୍ତ)

A Ketu hymn framed as Gautama's request to Suta, and its centre is a list of twelve, given by their ordinal position rather than by name: the first is terrible-faced, the second red-eyed, the third tawny-eyed, the fourth the giver of knowledge, the fifth brown-eyed, the sixth like the fire at the end of time, the seventh with frost in his belly, the eighth smoke-coloured, the ninth with his throat cut, the tenth seated on a man, the eleventh Shrikantha, the twelfth armed with a mace. The verse after them says what they are for: these twelve exceedingly cruel ones cause every kind of disturbance, and at the joints of the month they afflict the sun and the moon — so the list is an account of eclipse. It closes with the rite, a six-cornered diagram drawn on horse-gram, an eight-petalled lotus inside it, and a blue pot set down.
