Lord Rama

jayati śrī jānakī ballabha lāla

(Jayati Shri Janaki Ballabh Lal Aarti in English (IAST))

Also known as jayati srijanakiballabha lala

An arati to Rama and Sita together, its opening line supplying the refrain: victory to the beloved of Janaki, the dear one — let me turn the lamps and be made content. What follows is the pair described piece by piece in the way a temple singer describes what is in front of him, a crest ornament flashing at the head, the curls swinging against the cheeks. The song keeps to the couple throughout rather than to Rama by himself, which is what the name in the title announces, and it identifies him from beginning to end by the relation he stands in rather than by his own name. Sixteen short lines carry the whole of it.
