Goddess Shakambhari

ଶ୍ରୀ ଶାକଂଭରୀ ଆରତୀ (ଜଯ ଦେଵୀ ଜଯ ଦେଵୀ)

(Shakambhari Aarti (Jai Devi Marathi) in Odia)

Also known as shakambhari aarti marathi · vanashankari aarti · shakambhari devi aarti

The Marathi aarti of Shakambhari, sung as Vanashankari — the goddess of the forest — with the dhruvapada marker printed in the first line where the refrain returns. It opens by naming her twice over, Shri Vanashankari, mother, the primal sustainer of the world, and then goes straight to the story the name comes from: the demons were oppressing the gods and the people, and a famine had fallen. Shakambhari is the form the goddess takes to end that famine, feeding the world from her own body with herbs and vegetables, and the aarti keeps to that account rather than to a general praise. The last verse ends as Marathi aartis often do, with the devotee offering betel and bowing at the teacher's feet.
