শ্ৰী বাংকে বিহাৰী তেৰী আৰতী গাঊং

(Banke Bihari Aarti in Assamese)

Also known as sri bamke bihari teri arati gau

The aarti sung at the Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan, and it is a first-person song throughout — I sing your aarti, I would please you, I would be a sacrifice for that sight. The details are the ones anyone standing before that image notices first: the peacock crown at the head, the flute that takes the mind, the feet from which the Ganga came out and carried the whole world across. Then it turns domestic and plain — you are the lord of a servant who has nobody, and you are with me in sorrow and in happiness alike. Its last verse gives the song its address, naming Shri Haridas, whose beloved he is; and the image it leaves is that temple's own, not one figure but two, the paired form, at the sight of which the singer is sacrificed over and over.
