Lord Ganesha

ஆரதீ கஜவதந விநாயக கீ

(Arati Gajavadana Vinayaka Ki in Tamil)

Also known as bhagwan shree ganeshji aarti

An aarti to the elephant-faced Vinayaka, worshipped by gods and sages, moving in three tight verses from the icon to the gifts and back to the icon. First what he is: one-tusked, the moon at his brow, elephant-faced, destroyer of obstacles, a whole forest of good qualities, Shiva's son, saluted by the four-faced one. Then what he gives, and it is all of it mental — master of Riddhi and Siddhi, giver of clear understanding and clean judgement, the burning of the forest of sin, and learning and humility and standing in the world. Then back to the figure, and this time to its colour and its hands: tawny-eyed, the broad trunk, smoke-coloured, the thunderbolt and the goad held, hanging-bellied, and the carrier-off of hindrance and calamity.
