ଶ୍ରୀ ଵିଶ୍ଵକର୍ମା ଜୀ କୀ ଆରତୀ

A Hindi arati to Vishvakarma, the maker, and what it credits him with is knowledge rather than objects. At the first creation he gave the instruction of the Veda to Brahma, and it was he who developed in the world the understanding of craft and of weapons — so the arati puts design and scripture in the same sentence. The episodes it names are all of relief given to working people or to those who asked: the sage Angiras, who found no peace by austerity and got every attainment by meditating on him; a diseased king who took shelter and was cured; and a chariot-maker and his wife who called out and had their whole calamity removed. One verse counts his forms rather than describing them, one-faced and four-faced and five-faced, two-armed and four-armed and ten-armed, all of them his.
