(Gita Govinda Ninth Canto - Manda Mukunda)

Jayadeva

Also known as tamatha manmathakhinnam ratirasabhinnam visadasampannam

The Ninth Canto of the Gita Govinda, titled Manda Mukunda, captures the delicate emotional tension between Radha and Krishna. Composed by the poet Jayadeva, this work is a masterpiece of Sanskrit lyric poetry exploring the divine love of the Radha-Krishna union. Through the intervention of the sakhi, or confidante, the text delves into the psychological nuances of longing, pride, and eventual reconciliation. Reciting these verses fosters a deep sense of devotion, purifies the heart, and allows the practitioner to transcend worldly sorrows by meditating on the transcendental play of the divine couple.
