(Shree Krishna Arartika in English (IAST))

Vitthalesha

Also known as krishna arartika · saranagatabhitinivrttiparam parapaksatamonikaramsunidhim

The arati of Vitthalesha, and it is a chain: the syllables that end each line begin the next, so the whole hymn hooks into itself and cannot be taken apart without the joints showing. Devoted to ending the fear of those who have come for refuge, a store of light against the massed darkness of the other side — a store whose lotus feet are served, whose fruit is the turning back of the law of the age; his arms strong enough to give whatever is asked; his hand bright with gems and holding up the best of mountains, that mountain ringed about by the chosen women of the cowherds; the lotus of his hand set with the flute; the foe of the Yadava herd crushed in his fist. It closes by naming three lordships in a single line, and the reach of that line is the point — I salute him, lord of the cowherd settlement, lord of Kamala, lord of Mathura.
