Lord Shiva

শ্রীব্যাডেশ্বর আরতী

(Shree Vyadeshwar Aarti in Bengali)

Also known as vyadeshwar aarti · jayadeva jayadeva sri vyadesvara

The Marathi arati of Vyadeshwar at Guhagar, the family deity of a great many Konkan households, and it is as much about a building as about a god. It begins with the ground: the pure land of Aparanta which Bhargava made, into which the lord of the world came down, and the linga which Vyadi established and which then stayed hidden. The second verse walks the courtyard and names what stands in it — Amba and Ganapati, Maruti with Garuda, Nandi in front, and Shripati and Lakshmi and Surya seated around — so that the temple is described as a panchayatana, five shrines in one enclosure. The third goes inside to the sanctum and the pindi in it, the seven-hooded serpent holding its canopy overhead, and the vessel hung to keep an unbroken thread of water falling on the stone.
