Thus begins the sacred hymn to Lord Ganesha, the divine destroyer of all sorrows and obstacles.
The celestial sage Narada spoke:
Bowing my head in deep reverence to the divine Lord Vinayaka, the illustrious son of Gauri, who eternally dwells in the hearts of His devotees, I meditate upon Him constantly to attain longevity, fulfillment of desires, and spiritual wealth.
First, invoke Him as Vakratunda, the Lord of the curved trunk; second, as Ekadanta, the single-tusked Lord; third, as Krishnapingaksha, the one with dark, reddish-brown eyes; and fourth, as Gajavaktra, the majestic elephant-faced Lord.
Fifth, contemplate Him as Lambodara, the large-bellied Lord who contains the universe; sixth, as Vikata, the formidable and wondrous one; seventh, as Vighnaraja, the supreme ruler of obstacles; and eighth, as Dhumravarna, the smoke-hued Lord.
The ninth is Bhalachandra, who bears the crescent moon upon His brow; the tenth is Vinayaka, the supreme leader; the eleventh is Ganapati, Lord of the divine hosts; and the twelfth is Gajanana, the majestic elephant-faced Lord.
Whosoever recites these twelve sacred names at the three junctions of the day—dawn, noon, and dusk—shall be freed from all fear of obstacles, O Lord, and shall find the ultimate fulfillment of all their endeavors.
The seeker of knowledge attains knowledge,
The seeker of wealth attains wealth,
The seeker of progeny is blessed with children,
And the seeker of liberation attains the supreme path.
Chanting this sacred hymn to Ganapati, one reaps the fruit within six months; and within a year, one attains ultimate perfection—of this, there is no doubt.
Whoever transcribes this sacred hymn and offers it to eight wise souls, shall attain the fullness of all knowledge, through the divine grace of Lord Ganesha.
Thus concludes the sacred hymn to Lord Ganesha, the destroyer of all obstacles and distress, as revealed in the holy Narada Purana.
