Universal God

സര്വരൂപ ഭഗവാന് കീ ആരതീ (ജയ ജഗദീശ ഹരേ പ്രഭു)

(Sarvarupa Bhagavan Ki Arati Jaya Jagadisa Hare Prabhu in Malayalam)

Also known as sarvaroop bhagwan aarti · jaya jagadisa hare prabhu jaya jagadisa

A Hindi arati sung to the tune everyone knows, jaya jagadisha hare, but with words that are not the familiar ones and are far more austere. Two of its verses are built almost entirely on words beginning with the negative a, one after another: beginningless, without a beginning, beyond the senses, unmoving, undying, unequalled, endless, without disease, without measure; then stainless, without parts, unborn, unspent, unchanging, without modification. What follows names him as all the gods at once — Brahma and Hari and Shankara and Ganapati and the Sun and the Power — and then as every human relation at once, mother, father, grandfather, master, friend and husband. The last verse gathers both movements: witness, refuge, companion, dearest beloved, and then time itself and what stands outside time.
