chandas Pañcacāmara, 16 syllables in each of 4 pādas, short and long syllables alternating
सिन्धुराननम् the one with an elephant's face — Sindhura is an elephant. The verse waits until its last word to name who all these marks belong to.
वरप्रदाभयप्रदम् giver of boons and of fearlessness — The two hand gestures of blessing: varada, the open palm lowered, and abhaya, the palm raised.
note A meditation on Ganesha's form, from his golden colour to the lotus he sits on. The metre, alternating short and long syllables, gives the hymn its quick, drum-like beat. The printed वरप्रदा-ऽभयप्रधम् is read वरप्रदाभयप्रदम्.

chandas Pañcacāmara, 16 syllables in each of 4 pādas, short and long syllables alternating
प्रभातसूर्यसुन्दराम्बरद्वय a pair of garments lovely as the morning sun — The upper and lower cloth, both the red-gold of sunrise.
अङ्घ्रिपङ्कजम् lotus feet — Feet compared to a lotus, the usual way of speaking of a deity's feet.
note The eye moves down the figure, from the crown on his head to the anklets on his feet. The verse has no main verb of its own; it carries on the 'I worship' of the first verse.
गृह प्रतीर्ण सुन्दरं युगक्षण प्रमोदितम् ।
कवीन्द्र चित्तरञ्जकं महा विपत्ति भञ्जकं
षडक्षर स्वरूपिणं भजेद्गजेन्द्र रूपिणम् ॥
- सुवर्णदण्डमण्डितप्रचण्डचारुचामरम् (suvarṇadaṇḍamaṇḍitapracaṇḍacārucāmaram)fanned with fine, splendid whisks on gold-decorated handles
- गृहप्रतीर्णसुन्दरम् (gṛhapratīrṇasundaram)beautiful (the rest of this word is unclear in the text)
- युगक्षणप्रमोदितम् (yugakṣaṇapramoditam)full of joy (the exact sense is unclear)
- कवीन्द्रचित्तरञ्जकम् (kavīndracittarañjakam)who delights the minds of great poets
- महाविपत्तिभञ्जकम् (mahāvipattibhañjakam)who breaks the force of great disasters
- षडक्षरस्वरूपिणम् (ṣaḍakṣarasvarūpiṇam)whose form is the six-syllable mantra
- भजेत् (bhajet)one should worship
- गजेन्द्ररूपिणम् (gajendrarūpiṇam)him who has the form of the lord of elephants
anvaya सुवर्णदण्डमण्डितप्रचण्डचारुचामरम् गृहप्रतीर्णसुन्दरम् युगक्षणप्रमोदितम् कवीन्द्रचित्तरञ्जकम् महाविपत्तिभञ्जकम् षडक्षरस्वरूपिणम् गजेन्द्ररूपिणम् [गणेशम्] भजेत्
chandas Pañcacāmara, 16 syllables in each of 4 pādas, short and long syllables alternating
षडक्षरस्वरूपिणम् one whose form is the six-syllable mantra — Usually identified with Ganesha's six-syllable mantra, वक्रतुण्डाय हुम् (vakratuṇḍāya huṃ). The verse says the mantra and the god are the same.
चामरम् the royal whisk — A yak-tail fan waved before kings and deities as a sign of honour.
note The second line of this verse is unclear in the printed text. गृह प्रतीर्ण सुन्दरं युगक्षण प्रमोदितम् does not read cleanly, so its meaning here keeps only what can be said with confidence: that he is beautiful and joyful. The rest of the verse is clear.
गिरीश दर्शनेच्छया समार्पितं पराशाया ।

महामखेष्ट-मिष्ट-कर्मनु भजामि तुन्दिलम् ॥
- विरिञ्चिविष्णुवन्दितम् (viriñciviṣṇuvanditam)honoured by Brahma and Vishnu
- विरूपलोचनस्तुतम् (virūpalocanastutam)praised by Shiva, the three-eyed
- गिरीशदर्शनेच्छया (girīśadarśanecchayā)with a longing to see Shiva, lord of the mountain
- समर्पितम् (samarpitam)to whom offerings are made
- पराशया (parāśayā)with great hope
- निरन्तरम् (nirantaram)without pause
- सुरासुरैः (surāsuraiḥ)by gods and demons
- सुपुत्रवामलोचनैः (suputravāmalocanaiḥ)by those who want good sons, and by women with lovely eyes
- महामखेष्टमिष्टकर्मसु (mahāmakheṣṭamiṣṭakarmasu)in great sacrifices and in every cherished rite
- भजामि (bhajāmi)I worship
- तुन्दिलम् (tundilam)the round-bellied one
anvaya विरिञ्चिविष्णुवन्दितम् विरूपलोचनस्तुतम् गिरीशदर्शनेच्छया पराशया समर्पितम् सुरासुरैः सुपुत्रवामलोचनैः निरन्तरम् महामखेष्टमिष्टकर्मसु [पूजितम्] तुन्दिलम् [अहम्] भजामि
chandas Pañcacāmara, 16 syllables in each of 4 pādas, short and long syllables alternating
विरूपलोचन the one with unusual eyes, that is, three-eyed Shiva — Virupaksha, 'of unusual eyes', is a name of Shiva.
तुन्दिलम् the one with the round belly — An affectionate name for Ganesha, like Lambodara.
note Even Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva honour him, and so does every kind of worshipper. The printed text has several slips, and the word-by-word follows the usual readings: विरुपलोचन स्तुतिं as विरूपलोचनस्तुतम्, समार्पितं पराशाया as समर्पितं पराशया, and कर्मनु as कर्मसु. The second line is the least certain part of the verse.

- प्रमोदकर्णचालकम् (pramodakarṇacālakam)who flaps his ears in joy

- प्रचण्डमुक्तिदायकम् (pracaṇḍamuktidāyakam)who grants liberation with great power
- नमामि (namāmi)I bow to
- नित्यम् (nityam)every day
- आदरेण (ādareṇa)with love and respect
- वक्रतुण्डनायकम् (vakratuṇḍanāyakam)Vakratunda, the leader

chandas Pañcacāmara, 16 syllables in each of 4 pādas, short and long syllables alternating
मदौघ the flow of mada — Mada is the fragrant fluid that flows from an elephant's temples. In poetry, bees are always drawn to it.
अनन्यभक्ति devotion with no other object — Love that looks to him alone.
note A lively picture: bees buzzing around him and his great ears moving as he listens. The printed चञ्चलार्क is read as चञ्चलालि, 'restless bees', which fits the humming in the same line.

chandas Upajāti, a mix of 11- and 12-syllable pādas
दारिद्र्यविद्रावणम् that which makes poverty run away — The hymn's own name, Daridrya Dahana, means the burning of poverty. This line says the same with a different word.
एकदन्त the single-tusked one — Ganesha, named here by his tusk as the giver of the blessing.
note The closing verse, the phalashruti, says what the hymn gives: poverty driven away, a family, and harmony with one's own people. The printed पठॆदेत and वरप्रासादात् are read पठेदेतद् and वरप्रसादात्.
