Lord Ganesha

śrīgaṇeśa saṃskṛtamārātrikam

(Shri Ganesha Sanskrit Aratrikam (Sanskrit Aarti) in English (IAST))

Mayura Kavi

Also known as sri ganesha sanskrit aratrikam (sanskrit aarti) · shree ganesha sanskrit aratrikam (sanskrit aarti) · ganesha sanskrit aratrikam (sanskrit aarti)

A Sanskrit aarti by the poet Mayura, and its refrain gives him two offices in one breath: leader of the hosts of obstacles, and bridge across the ocean of dullness. Its first verse is about the smallest of offerings — whoever has brought you fresh durva has got by it learning and wealth and a fame that never existed before. The second states the doctrine the whole form rests on, and states it as something observed rather than revealed: you are the one who receives the first salutation, it is famed in the world, it is seen in good practice, and the teachers say it too; and whoever turns away from you finds obstacles of every kind on the road to his own success. The third is three similes for a child your glance has fallen on even once — the sciences serve him like servants, he splits the enemy as the thunderbolt-handed does, and he cuts delusion as a peacock cuts a snake.
