एकादशीEkadashi

Also called Vaikuntha Ekadashi · Nirjala Ekadashi · Devshayani Ekadashi

A fast kept for Viṣṇu, from the sunrise of the eleventh to the sunrise of the twelfth, broken at the pāraṇa hour.

When it falls

The eleventh tithi of both fortnights, twenty-four times a year. Vaikuṇṭha Ekādaśī in Mārgaśīrṣa and Nirjalā in Jyeṣṭha are kept most widely.

The tithi, not a date — the calendar date is a pañchāṅga reckoning and differs by region. Check your local pañchāṅga for this year.

The Reading

The Viṣṇu Sahasranāma, whose thousand names are the day’s reading wherever the fast is kept.
